Take a trip to the old riverside roads and villages of Ylistaro and Isokyrö!
Reach far back into the region’s history at Leväluhta’s mysterious Iron Age water burial site, listen to the story of Pukkila’s ship burial and cremation, find out how the peasant uprising that would come to be known as the Cudgel War began and ended and absorb yourself in the last large field battle of the Great Northern War in Napue. On the south bank, the tour route follows the Kyrönkangas summer road, which dates back to at least the Middle Ages, when it wove through the wilderness from Finland and Häme to Ostrobothnia. Peek through the curtain between the present and the past. The tour also passes many stately Ostrobothnian homes, some of which have stood proud among the golden fields of grain for centuries.
Departure and end point: Ylistaro village centre, Kaukolanraitti 2
Please note: In Leväluhta, the tour disembarks from the bus, and the tour guide leads the group 460 metres along a rocky forest trail. Short walk to the battle memorial. We recommend wearing good walking shoes appropriate for the weather.
