For many years now, Lapua Cathedral has been working with the City’s tourism office to organise guided tours of the Simpsiön Hautausmaa cemetery. Let the city’s tour guides take you on a journey through an important and sombre part of Lapua’s history.
The tour will introduce you to places like the cemetery’s oldest identifiable grave, dating back to 1833. You will visit the graves of many influential residents of Lapua, such as bishops, priests and members of Parliament; learn about significant events in Lapua’s history, including the cartridge factory explosion, and get introduced to some less-usual monuments and memorials. The tour covers both the old and new sides of the cemetery.
You can find more information at the City’s Tourist Information Centre.
