The cathedral’s churchyard (Kosolankatu 3) includes a number of memorials, such as a monument to the fallen of the Finnish Civil War, a memorial to those buried in Karelia, a monument to Finnish Jägers and an angel sculpture erected to commemorate the fallen of the Winter and Continuation Wars. The churchyard has nearly 300 war graves.
The churchyard also has a memorial to those who fell in the Battle of Lapua in 1808 during the Finnish War and two guns captured by soldiers from Lapua during the Finnish Civil War.
The monument to Finnish Jägers is an enlarged copy of sculptor and Jäger captain Lauri Leppänen’s statuette. The pedestal was designed by Kaarlo Lamminheimo.
