The Ostrobothnian Photography Centre, or POVA, is a 20-year-old photography centre that operates in South Ostrobothnia, Central Ostrobothnia and Ostrobothnia. It promotes the visibility of art photography and photographers in the area and strives to create good conditions for art photographers and bring together people who are interested in art photography.
Gallery
POVA offers free admission for both art photographers and audiences at its gallery in Cultural Centre Vanha Paukku in Lapua and at our shared gallery at Veteli Art Mansion.
The cultural centre’s 38-square-metre gallery space hosts roughly 10 exhibitions each year, decided on by the centre’s management. The themes of the exhibitions vary, ranging from traditional photography to modern art photography. Twice a year, POVA also organises exhibitions at its neighbour gallery, the Cartridge Art Gallery. Thanks to the increased space, these exhibitions are able to showcase a larger collection of works.
Other events
The photography centre organises lectures, exhibitions, competitions and activities for photography courses. Each year, POVA organises the photography festival Lakeuden Laajakuvafestivaali, as well as other events.
POVA runs a darkroom in Cultural Centre Vanha Paukku, both for educational purposes and for members’ use.
